The Florida Department of Health works closely with its partner agencies, the Florida Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) and Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) utilizing collaborative protocol for the monitoring and public notification of algae blooms in state waters to protect Florida from exposure to harmful algal blooms.Â
DEP and their partners conduct sampling and testing of freshwater for blue-green algae, while FWC samples and tests marine waters for red tide. The Florida Department of Health gathers the data from both agencies to develop health cautions and alerts, and works to distribute the information to the impacted areas through our county health departments.
