Critically Low Hemoglobin Values

Now, lets say your client comes in for her next certification and her hemoglobin value is still at 8.3. In this case, since the value still remains outside the Nutritionist range, assign the risk, 201-Anemia, and refer her directly to her health care provider.

An exception to this rule is when they have a VERY low hemoglobin level. And I do mean, low. Since this condition can be life-threatening, refer your client to her health care provider IMMEDIATELY, even if this is the first time with a critically low level.

This chart shows what critically low values are for the state of Arizona. It is also included in the document you downloaded. See your agencys policy to learn what critically low levels are in your area.
