The Florida Department of Health regulates high-power laser devices, which can start fires or cause severe burns and blindness if misused.
The Department currently has registered more than 17,000 lasers at over 4000 facilities, including hospitals, universities, industrial plants, doctors' offices, and laboratories.
Please be advised that registering a laser does not authorize you to use that laser on humans for any medical, health, cosmetic, or other purpose. Before using a laser for these purposes, please check with the appropriate health practitioner licensing board regarding licensure requirements for laser use on humans. Unlicensed use constitutes both the unlicensed practice of a health care profession and a crime. Contact information, statutes, and rules for all health care professions can be found on the Boards and Councils page. The Florida Board of Medicine has provided a laser treatment FAQs page with their opinions and statements concerning who can use a laser on humans.
