All individuals with asthma should have an asthma action plan. The asthma action plan is a written, individualized plan that shows your daily treatment, such as what kind of medicines to take and when to take them. You will work with your doctor to develop an asthma action plan tailored to your asthma management. People that are involved in the care of the person with asthma should be made aware of the asthma action plan. This includes school and childcare center workers.
Asthma action plans are an essential part of care provided to patients with asthma that allow the patient and providers together identifying triggers and symptoms to decrease the overall burden for the patient. These plans should be reviewed and refined at every follow-up visit with your doctor. At the very least, asthma action plans should be reviewed by a patient, their family, and clinician on an annual basis.
