Epilepsy Services Program
The Epilepsy Services Program is a unique client collaboration that provides patient assistance and referrals, education, and prevention services to the public. Within the Epilepsy Services Program the Department contracts with organizations located throughout the state. While each organization may not have a physical office in each county, per their contract, they must provide services in each county, as specified in their agreement. This ensures every county resident is afforded the opportunity to access services provided under this program. The goal of this program is to increase the independency of individuals with epilepsy, the knowledge of the public about epilepsy, the research behind this condition, and most importantly understand the neurological functions in individuals with epilepsy.
Florida Statutes 385.207(2)(a) states that the Department of Health shall establish with the office of the Deputy State Health Officer a program for the care and assistance of persons with epilepsy and promote and assist in the continued development and expansion of programs for the case management, diagnosis, care and treatment of such persons, including required pharmaceuticals, medical procedures, and techniques which will have a positive effect in the care and treatment of persons with epilepsy.
Epilepsy Services Providers
Any resident of Florida diagnosed with epilepsy, or is suspected of having epilepsy, and needs the program's services can apply to be a client.
The Epilepsy Services Program (ESP) provides prevention, education, and referral services to all residents. If the client needs medical services and the client's gross family income is at or below 100 percent of the federal poverty income guidelines, services are provided free of charge. If the client's gross family income is more than 100 percent of the federal poverty income guidelines, medical services are provided on a sliding fee scale.
