Tallahassee, Fla. -The Florida Department of Health has announced Jennifer Johnson as the health officer in Jefferson and Madison Counties. Since January, Johnson has served as the interim health officer in Jefferson and Madison Counties. Previously, she worked for the Office of Program Policy Analysis and Government Accountability (OPPAGA) in the Florida Legislature for over 15 years.
“The department is very pleased to remove the interim tag from Jennifer’s title,” said Deputy Secretary for County Health Systems Kim Barnhill. “We are confident that her wealth of experience and commitment to public health will continue to serve the people of Jefferson and Madison counties well.”
Prior to joining the department, Johnson was the Staff Director of OPPAGA. She also served as OPPAGA’s Chief Legislative Analyst, Senior Policy Analyst and the Legislative Policy Analyst. Johnson earned her Bachelor of Science in Zoology from the University of Florida, a Master of Public Health from the University of South Florida and is currently pursuing a doctorate degree in Public Administration from Florida State University. She has also attended the Legislative Staff Management Institute.
She is a member of the National Academy of State Health Policy, the National Conference of State Legislatures Health and Human Services Committee, and in 2015, she served as the Program Co-chair for the Southeast Evaluation Association.
