Tallahassee, Fla.—The Florida Department of Health has announced Paul Runk as the new interim director of the Office of Legislative Planning. Runk is replacing director Marco Paredes who is joining Magellan Health, a leader in managing the fastest growing, most complex areas of health care, as their new regional vice president for government affairs in the South. In the interim role, Runk will provide leadership and coordination for all of the department’s legislative priorities.
“Paul is a savvy and experienced professional with a great knowledge of the legislative process,” said Interim State Surgeon General and Secretary of Health Dr. Celeste Philip. “While we’re sad to see Marco go, Paul will provide a seamless transition, and I’m excited for him to oversee future legislative work for the department.”
Runk has served as deputy director of the Office of Legislative Planning at the department since 2013. Previously, he worked as senior legislative assistant for the Office of Representative and Senator Alan Hays facilitating legislation and overseeing the operation of constituent outreach. Runk was also campaign manager for Hays prior to his successful election to the Florida State Senate in 2010.
Runk is a graduate of Florida State University, where he received a Bachelor of Science in Political Science. He later continued his education at FSU earning a Master of Science in Social Sciences/Executive Development and a Graduate Certificate in Public Administration.
