Florida Department of Health Welcomes New State Emergency Medical Services Medical Director

Tallahassee, Fla. — Today, the Florida Department of Health announced Dr. Angus Jameson as the State Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Medical Director. He succeeds Dr. Kenneth Scheppke who is now serving as the Department’s Deputy Secretary for Health.
In addition to his new role as the State EMS Medical Director, Dr. Jameson serves as an affiliate assistant professor at the University of South Florida Morsani College of Medicine. He also serves as the Pinellas County EMS Medical Director where he supports the work of 1,800 EMTs and paramedics across 20 agencies collectively serving a population of approximately one million people.
“The Department is pleased to have a proven leader with Dr. Jameson’s qualifications in EMS and in public health,” said Deputy Secretary for Health Kenneth Scheppke. “I am confident that he will provide excellent public service to one of the nation’s most advanced EMS and integrated public health systems.”
Dr. Jameson is a licensed medical doctor who is also a dual board-certified specialist in emergency medicine and the subspecialty of EMS. Dr. Jameson received his medical degree from Albany Medical College and completed his residency training at the University of Pittsburgh. He also completed his EMS fellowship at the Fire Department of the City of New York (FDNY). Dr. Jameson also holds a Master of Public Health degree from the State University of New York at Albany (SUNY Albany).
Dr. Jameson has over 20 years of experience in EMS with direct field experience in both ground and helicopter-based systems. He also continues to practice hospital-based emergency medicine and is active in promoting regional advances in stroke, STEMI, and cardiac arrest care. Dr. Jameson’s public health work focuses on the opioid epidemic and First Responder mental health. Additionally, he serves as a primary physician advisor to Pinellas Country leadership on COVID-19 policy.
Dr. Jameson participates in several state and national EMS organizations including the National Association of EMS Physicians and the National Association of EMTs where he serves as the AHA ECC Committee Liaison. Dr. Jameson is also a board member of both the Florida Association of EMS Medical Directors and the Prehospital Guidelines Consortium.
