The Prescription Drug Monitoring Program (PDMP) is an electronic database that tracks controlled substance prescriptions and provides authorities timely information about prescribing and patient behaviors that contribute to the epidemic and facilitate a targeted response.
Prevent Substance Use Disorder
There are a variety of ways to help prevent substance use disorder, such as:
- Monitor use of Florida's Prescription Drug Monitoring Program (PDMP), via the E-FORCSE® PMP AWARxE platform.
- Provide academic detailing to educate providers about opioid prescribing, guidelines, and facilitating conversations with patients about the risks and benefits of pain treatment options.
- Encourage quality improvement programs in health care systems to increase implementation of recommended prescribing practices.
- Provide patient education on the safe storage and disposal of controlled substances.
- Improve awareness and share resources about the risks of controlled substances and the cost of overdose on patients and families.
