Appointments

The Alzheimer’s Disease Research Grant Advisory Board is authorized in section 381.82, Florida Statutes.

The board consists of 11 members appointed by the State Surgeon General, including two gerontologists, two geriatric psychiatrists, two geriatricians, two neuroscientists, and three neurologists.

The board members serve 4-year terms. The chair of the board shall be elected from the membership of the board and serve as chair for two years. An appointed member may not serve more than two consecutive terms.

Appointed members must have experience in Alzheimer’s disease or related biomedical research.

The board must follow rigorous guidelines for ethical conduct and adhere to a strict policy regarding conflicts of interest. A member of the board may not participate in any discussion, decision of the board, or panel regarding a research proposal by any firm, entity, or agency the member is associated with as a member of the governing body, as an employee, or if in a contractual arrangement.
