Public awareness materials and activities provide information to the general public about Early Steps, how to gain access to early intervention services, the Central Directory and child find activities. Both the Early Steps State Office and Local Early Steps conduct public awareness activities. It is important that Local Early Steps tailor their outreach activities to the diverse needs of their service areas and populations served, so that all families in the area will have the opportunity to learn about the benefits of early intervention. Public awareness activities may include, but are not limited to the following: brochures and posters displayed in doctors' offices, hospitals, health departments, child care centers, and other appropriate locations; television, radio and newspaper releases; display boards set up at conferences, meetings and public awareness events; speaking engagements; and use of toll-free telephone services.

In accordance with the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA), Part C Code of Federal Regulations, 34 CFR, Section 303.320, public awareness materials and activities provide information to the general public about Early Steps, how to gain access to early intervention services, the Central Directory and child find activities.
